Ganderbal, Sep 07 (KNO): After remaining suspended for more than 33 years, the annual Urs of Sufi saint Syed Qamar-ud-Din Bukhari will be observed from today in Ganderbal.
The annual Urs would draw a huge crowd of people until it was suspended in early ‘90s.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in view of the ongoing Urs, a funfair has been established in the town with a variety of food stalls, kiosks selling garments and toys for children.
Authorities have made arrangements this year to facilitate devotees through water transport. Water transport was the essential feature of the Urs as scores of devotees would book ‘Dongas’ (non-luxury houseboats) to navigate through Jhelum and Sindh stream to reach the shrine three decades ago. People living in villages close to the shrine would invite relatives and friends on the annual Urs.
The Urs will formally begin from today evening with nightlong prayers and recitation of Darood-e-Azkaar—(KNO)
